Morocco is the North African country with the most varied climate, due to its high mountain ranges and to the fact that it is surrounded by the Atlantic Oceanand the Mediterranean Sea.
In the "cold land where the sun is warm", as the Moroccans say, fall and spring are characterized by rainfall and the summer is hot and dry.
Morocco possesses the Atlas Mountains, the largest mountain range in Africa and the border between the paleoarctic region and the tropics.
The Atlas Mountains feature a wide variety of landscape, including plateaus, valleys, canyons, ridges and peaks. The vegetation of the Moroccan steppes is characteristic of areas that have droughts.
The desert begins in the regions where annual rainfall does not exceed 100 mm. It begins in Jebel Siroua and west of the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Morocco's desert is mainly rocky, while sand is transferred by the hot winds of the Sahara, which collects on top of the rocks and creates sand dunes.
The main feature of Moroccan cuisine is the use of spices, usually sweet and sour flavors combined elaborately with peppers, greens, seed and roots. The country is famous for its carpets and ornate, handmade needlework.
