Libya is one of the oldest and largest countries in the world. It was at its greatest peak during the years it was under Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Arabic rule.
Libya's geographical position - in the center of the Arab world -, as well as its beautiful beaches, deep blue Mediterranean waters and endless kilometers of desert that expands well into the depths of Africa, make it exceedingly impressive.
Libya also possesses oases, mountain ranges and rocky hills. Its fauna is dominated by camels, deer and desert foxes.
Libya was once an important trade center between the North and the South, as well as the East and the West. For centuries it was a melting pot of cultures.
In Libya, one can see a great variety of ancient sites, particularly the lavish sites of Western Libya (Tripolitania), where the ancient cities of Oia, Leptis Magna and Sabratha exist. In Eastern Libya (Cyrene), the sites of ancient Cyrene, Apollonia, Ptolemaida, Tahira, Berenice (Benghazi) and Barce.
The Libyan civilization is a close relative to the Egyptian civilization, just as the Libyan people are kin of the Egyptian people.
