CAIRO SITES
The Egyptian Antiquities Museum: the most significant museum in Egypt, established in 1835 and has been housed in its present building since 1900. It includes an extensive collection of ancient and historical artefacts from Pre-historic times to the Greco-Roman Era, such as:

  • Tutankhamun treasures
  • Mummies, sarcophagi, scarabs, papyri and coins
  • Artefacts from the Pre-dynasty, Old Kingdom, first-intermediate period, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom and Late periods
  • Greek and Roman articles

The Citadel of Cairo: the most noticeable building on Cairo's skyline, built in the 12 th century by the Abbasid Ruler Salahdin, who wanted to protect the area against the Crusaders. The Citadel is considered one of the finest examples of medieval warfare architecture. The walls of the Citadel originally reached 10 meters in height and 3 meters in width. Throughout history, the Citadel has been altered, reinforced and added to by various invaders. A number of monuments exist inside the Citadel walls, including the famous Mohammad Ali Mosque.

The Mohammad Ali Mosque: otherwise know as the Alabaster Mosque, is located inside the Citadel of Cairo. Its construction lasted 33 years, from 1824 to 1857. It got the name "the Alabaster Mosque", due to its alabaster walls.

The Khan El-Khalili Market: Cairo's shopping paradise was built in the 14 th century by the Emir Djaharks El-Kahlili. At the Khan El-Khalili Market, visitors can find any item, water pipes, jewelry, spices, traditional crafts, fabrics, textiles, etc.

ALEXANDRIA SITES
The Alexandria Library / Museum: this historical library was burnt down in 48 BC during the Alexandrian War destroying at least 40,000 priceless scrolls, robbing civilization of a precious, irreplaceable academic legacy. It has been recently rebuilt by the Egyptian government and UNESCO and contains a vast amount of books and scriptures, as well as a marvellous museum. The museum, located on the ground floor of the library, includes collections of ancient artefacts from the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Coptic and Islamic Eras.

The Greco-Roman Museum : was established in 1892 and has been housed in its present building since 1895. The museum contains a wide selection of Greco-Roman artefacts from the 3 rd century BC to the 7 th century AD, such as:

  • Statues and busts
  • Mosaics, amphorae, pottery
  • Glassware and jewelry
  • Mummies and sarcophagi
  • Marbles, bronzes and tapestries

The Cavafy House / Museum: Alexandria born Constantinos Cavafys is one of Greece's most famous poets. The museum is his house and contains various artefacts, such as rare works, furniture, pictures and other minor objects. The museum also includes a room dedicated to the Greek author, Stratis Tsirkas. 

The Catacombs of Kom es-Shouqafa: constructed for a family during the 2 nd century AD. It was built on three levels and carved into the rock. What is most impressive about the catacombs is that although the motifs on the tombs are ancient Egyptian, the architecture is according to the Greco-Roman style, making them unique.
